Today Instagram released an interesting new feature to your newsfeed continuing their effort to stay ahead of the social curve. Carousel style capabilities for photos and videos in your organic feed, which was previously only available for paid social ad. Why is this important? Well, whether you are using your personal account or running the feed for your business, individuals and brands can now tell a more visually compelling story in a singular post.
Before, brands would have to share multiple moments from one at a time. There are a few problems with this: brands bombard their followers with a bunch of post all at once resulting in a decline of engagement in the consecutive posts; one or more of the posts could be missed all together. Other times your posts might show up in your followers’ feed out of the intended order due to Instagram’s algorithms.
Carousel capabilities allow you to post multiple photos and videos in the order you want, all in one post. And they won’t disappear after 24 hours, as they do on Instagram stories and Snapchat. Below are the 10 things you need to know about Instagram’s carousel style post.
What you need to know:
Upload up to ten photos and videos at a time
Arrange and rearrange the order of the photos and videos
The first image in order will be used as the thumbnail in your news feed
Add a filter to the entire post, or different filters to individual photos/videos
All videos and photos for now will be in the square format
Only one comment caption applied to the entire post, rather than individual photos and videos
Followers can like and comment the whole post as normal, rather than individual photos of the carousel
You can tag different people and brands in each of the photos
Once the carousel post is shared you can edit the caption and location, but you cannot edit photo/video order, delete individual photo or video from the post, or change the accounts you have tagged. You can delete the entire post
Adding more photos and videos will take longer to upload. If you are posting multiple videos Instagram recommends to be connected to a reliable network
